George Harmon dreaming of 'boring' Ross County playoff clash 12 months on from thriller
George Harmon netted the injury time equaliser that saved Ross County’s Premiership skins in a play-off drama he admits was utterly “mental” 12 months ago. The Staggies’ miraculous 20-minute fightback from 3-0 down on aggregate against Partick Thistle was live television gold.
But a year on from that Highlands thriller - and with the cameras heading back to the Global Energy Arena for another instalment of play-off final action - Harmon admits he’d settle for this latest episode being a telly BORE. Unlike last May, the Dingwall men hold the first leg advantage after a 2-1 win over Raith Rovers in Kirkcaldy on Thursday night. And while Sam Stanton’s 82nd minute goal for Raith has brought life back to the tie, County remain firm favourites to secure safety on their own patch for a second successive season.
For Harmon, who also netted his spot kick when last year’s final eventually went to a shoot-out, he’d love nothing more than to do it with the minimum fuss. He said: “The game last season was a bit of a blur, especially how it panned out. It was a mental game to be a part of, I can’t really say much more than that!
“It was mental but hopefully can make sure we stay in the Premiership for next season. That game showed us momentum is a big thing in football so we just have to focus on ourselves. We want to implement our style of football on the game and take it from there.
“Would we be happy if it’s a more boring game this week compared to last year? Yeah, we just want to get the job done. It’s in our hands and all we’re focused on is what we have to do.
“Are we frustrated to have let them back in? A little bit but we know it’s in our hands on Sunday. We just have to go into that, try our best to win the game.”
