George Baldock hails Sheffield United team spirit after clinching goal of the month award

Sheffield United’s George Baldock has praised the spirit in the Blades' camp after winnin the Championship goal of the month award for February. The full-back's strike against Swansea City last month received 56% of the public vote to make him the clear winner.

Baldock latched on to Rhys Norrington-Davies’ fizzing cross and timed his volley perfectly to send the ball into the back of the net off the underside of the bar in the 17th minute as the Blades continued their march up the table. But far from basking in personal glory, Baldock pointed to the team ethic behind the goal.

“As you know I don't score many goals, so I'm delighted this one has been recognised, but it was a fantastic team goal," he said. "I knew I couldn't have hit it any better, I struck it sweetly and I saw it going towards the crossbar so I was already wheeling off, then I saw Billy (Sharp) and Morgan (Gibbs-White) raise their arms so I knew it had dropped in.

"The boys were great with me, we are in it together and there is a real unity within the squad regardless of who is or isn't playing, so everyone was pleased for me."

Baldock’s strike was way ahead in the poles and saw off competition from Blackpool’s Josh Bowler and Hull City’s Keane Lewis – Potter for the award. That goal was Baldock’s first league goal for the Blades since netting in the Premier League against Norwich during the 19/20 season.
