'Generational talent' Phil Foden compared to Barcelona greats Xavi and Andres Iniesta

Manchester City's Phil Foden has been praised as a 'generational talent' as a result of his performances for his boyhood club. Since bursting onto the scene in the 2017/18 season, Foden has become one of the hottest prospects in world football.

This campaign he has played a pivotal role, making 33 appearances scoring 11 goals and grabbing eight assists. This form has not gone unnoticed and former City captain Andy Morrison has heaped praise on the 21-year-old from Stockport.

He told City's Matchday Live broadcast: "He’s a generational talent. "He receives balls in positions that remind me of Xavi and Iniesta.

"It’s in the DNA of the club for them to also work incredibly hard and nobody more than Foden. He starts the presses, and this is coming from a young lad. His football brain is so sharp and bright that he starts everything from behind.

"The turnover starts from his initial press - it’s a unique talent. I’m not saying anything that hasn’t been said about him already."

Blues legend Shaun Goater added: "He has that determination to affect the game, whether with the pass, the drive or the goal. He delivers a pass, cross or shot - he scores, or he assists.

"This is the silky skills that he has. I can see the stuff they’re doing at the academy.

"They’ve been practising it and encouraging it. He does it at the highest level at the highest speed - it’s incredible."
