Gemma Atkinson has the perfect response to those who quiz her over how her relationship with Gorka Marquez works when they spend chunks of time apart. The couple have made no secret of the fact that sometimes they have to spend long periods of time away from each other.

The couple met on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, where Gorka is a professional dancer on the show and is set to return for the 2024 series this autumn, and have since got engaged in 2021 and are proud parents to daughter Mia, five, and son Thiago, 11 months.

But last year, shortly after their son's arrival, Gorka had to leave the family's Greater Manchester home for the 2023 run of the BBC One dance contest. Also earlier this year, the dancer spent several weeks away from his fiancee and their two children as he torued the country with his fellow Strictly professionals.

However, it's not something that phases Gemma and Gorka, despite him being seen getting emotional in their reality show, Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens, as he prepared to leave them for life on the road for two months.

"I get asked a lot, 'How do you do that on your own with the kids and him being away?'" Gemma said in a recent interview. "But it's all we've known in our relationship. So I'm like, 'How do you live with someone 24/7 and see them all the time?'" she added to Heat magazine.
