Gary Neville sends Ed Woodward jibe to Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after Thomas Tuchel sacking

Gary Neville has mocked Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after Chelsea dismissed manager Thomas Tuchel this morning.

The Blues boss was shown the door after a poor start to the season, which culminated in a shock 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday. The German lifted the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, going on to win the subsequent Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Tuchel was linked with the vacant Manchester United hot seat towards the end of last season, but rebuffed these suggestions. At the time he said: "I have said many times that I love to be here and this club has everything it needs to make me happy.”

Since then, Roman Abramovich has been replaced by Todd Boehly and his consortium as owners of Chelsea FC. It preceded a very active summer transfer market, which saw the likes of Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana arrive in big money deals.

American Boehly seems eager to stamp his name on the game and prove himself to fans. And now he has sacked Tuchel, who won three of his seven opening matches this season, having lost to Leeds and Southampton.

Neville likened Boehly to former United CEO Ed Woodward, who oversaw a number of managerial changes at Old Trafford during his stay, which ended earlier this year. Since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, the likes of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have passed in through and out of the Carrington doors.

Reacting to Tuchel’s sacking, Neville tweeted: “Todd Woodward” in a joke comparison between the pair.
