Gary Neville's classy gesture after Salford City's postponement vs Port Vale

Manchester United legend and Salford City co-owner Gary Neville made a classy gesture after their clash with Port Vale was a casualty of the adverse weather.

The postponement came around an hour and a half before kick-off with around 1,300 Vale fans making the 100-mile round trip from Stoke-on-Trent.

Due to downpour in the North West, the referee, Carl Boyeson, ruled the Salford pitch was carrying too much water for the game to go ahead.

Neville tweeted: "Sorry to the Port Vale team, staff and fans.

"Whilst it doesn’t make up for it we will do the following: refund tickets for anyone who can’t come to the rearranged game, fund the supporters coaches for the return game, fund the cost of the team coach for the return game."

Stoke On Trent Live reported that the League Two hosts have donated the pies and baps they had produced for the game to a local charity and also gave some to Vale fans who were starting to arrive at the away end.

In the complexion of the table, the clash saw two play-off hopefuls set to battle it out to bolster their hopes of breaking into the top seven with both clubs locked on 40 points.
