Gary Neville pinpoints moment he knew Man City would ‘batter’ Arsenal

Gary Neville says he thought Manchester City would cruise to a victory against Arsenal when he saw both teams in the tunnel.

The Blues ran to a 4-1 win over their title rivals to put their destiny solely into their own hands. Two goals from Kevin De Bruyne, a header from John Stones and a late effort from Erling Haaland saw City go within two points of the Gunners with two games in hand.

The clash was donned as a potential title-decider and Neville had previously predicted a close game. However he soon changed his mind once he saw the two teams line-up in the tunnel.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Overlap, he said: “I think coming to Manchester City in a game like this, I think it warranted potentially looking at the game differently.

“If you’re conceding goals against Southampton, Bournemouth, and West Ham, you’re definitely going to concede goals against Manchester City.

“We have a group and honestly I saw them in the tunnel and I said, ‘Arsenal are going to have to do very well here not to concede four’.

“Literally in the tunnel, you just thought, they’re going to get absolutely battered, I didn’t think that really a week ago or a few days ago, I thought it would be tight.”

City - still on for the treble - are now considered the heavy favourites for the title with seven league games left. However, speaking in his press conference ahead of Fulham, Pep Guardiola dismissed suggestions the race for the crown is over.
