Gary Neville names two players he would prefer Manchester United to sign over Mohamed Salah

Gary Neville has admitted he would prefer Manchester United to sign Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland over Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Mbappe has been in great form for Paris Saint-Germain this season, with Real Madrid desperate to sign him in the summer. Erling Haaland is also expected to be courted by Real at the end of the season, though United have also been credited with an interest in the prolific frontman.

In their disappointing defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, United were forced to field a starting XI without a recognised striker as both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani missed out through injury. Salah has been Jurgen Klopp's talisman for a number of years now, helping to spearhead the Merseyside club's charge for both domestic and European honours.

However, Neville has claimed he would shun the possibility of signing Salah if it meant United brought either Mbappe or Haaland to Old Trafford.

"At times earlier in the season, Salah was at a level that was the best in the world, and he still could be," Neville told Sky Sports. "But if you said to me I could sign one player for Manchester United tomorrow, I would still probably go for Mbappe or Haaland over Salah.

"It’s not a Liverpool thing, I think Salah is absolutely amazing, but I just think Mbappe has got the ability to be out-of-this-world special. There is no doubt Salah is world-class, but Mbappe has got something different, that edge, something that is that good, it could make him one of the true greats."
