Gary Neville names ‘brutal’ manager Man Utd should appoint to rattle Klopp and Guardiola

Gary Neville joined the growing chorus of voices that think Diego Simeone would be an ideal fit to become the next manager of Manchester United.

United will appoint a new permanent manager in the summer. Ralf Rangnick was drafted in in November on an interim basis. Though the experienced German has not done enough to put himself in the frame to take the job permanently.

Indeed, United’s trophy-less drought will extend into a sixth season next year following their exit from the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Simeone was the architect of their demise, frustrating United at every turn on a wholly disappointing night at Old Trafford.

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag are drawing the most frequent links with the United managerial post. However, their early exits from the Champions League – also at the Round of 16 stage – may make United’s decision-makers pause for thought.

Rio Ferdinand recently claimed the most important trait a Man Utd must have is a big character. That’s one reason why United legend Roy Keane reckons Simeone would be suitable for the the hot-seat.

In the aftermath of United’s loss to Atletico, Paul Scholes claimed the outcome would’ve been reversed if Simeone was in United’s dugout on the night.

Now, fellow club legend Gary Neville has added his voice to those pushing Simeone towards Manchester.

“Diego Simeone should be a candidate,” Neville told Sky Sports. “But it’s never been achievable to get him out of Atletico Madrid.
