Gary Neville makes Ryan Reynolds Wrexham point to Manchester United owners amid takeover process

Manchester United's takeover process continues to drag on and Reds hero Gary Neville feels the club can take a leaf out of Wrexham's book.

The Welsh side returned to the Football League after an 11-year absence when they claimed the National League title. The arrival of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has sparked a revolution at the Racecourse Ground and the American pair are confident of bringing further success to the club.

Reynolds and McElhenney have embedded themselves in the culture at Wrexham, are regularly seen at games and have earned widespread praise for the way they have gone about their business since arriving in 2020. And former Red Neville feels the pair's attitude is in stark contrast to the Glazer Family.

"Honestly, I think everyone has got the point whereby what the Glazers do, they erode every little last bit of energy out of everything that they do," he said.

"The fans have had enough, they want them out and I think to be fair – it’s sad, really, that it’s come to that but that’s exactly how I think everybody feels. They know nothing about Manchester or the north west of England and the tradition of football in this part. They have not embedded themselves in the local culture."

Contrasting the approach with Reynolds and McElhenney's tenure at Wrexham, Neville added: "They turn up there. They’ve done it well at Wrexham and they’ve got obviously a long way to go to get to probably where they want to be, Championship (or) Premier League, and probably that might take three years, eight years, 12 years, who knows."
