Gary Neville makes Richard Arnold admission as he takes aim at Manchester United hierarchy

Gary Neville has described the situation Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold finds himself in as a "nightmare" following the club's 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Brentford.

A disastrous first half saw United ship all four goals within 35 minutes to end the day bottom of the Premier League. Neville shared his disbelief and disgust while commentating on the game for Sky Sports.

He said the blame did not lie at Erik ten Hag ’s feet but the board’s, due to their inability to convince targets to join the club. It paints an ominous picture ahead of the Old Trafford clash with Liverpool.

"It's a nightmare for CEO Richard Arnold," Neville said. "He's been a few months in the job, and what a job he has on - above him and below him.

“The football department can't get the players in. Erik ten Hag has been left short. He's still getting used to the level - that much is obvious - of the team he's picked today, and what the Premier League's about.”

He added: "He's only a few months in. The people above Arnold are now in charge of an embedded rot.

"If I was them, I'd get over here this week and show up, and try to take some of the pressure away from the people below because it's going to get enormous before the Liverpool game."
