Gary Neville makes difficult choice between Man City and Liverpool for Champions League glory

Manchester United great Gary Neville has reluctantly admitted that he would rather see Manchester City win the Champions League than Liverpool.

Despite holding Atletico Madrid to a draw in the first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano, Tuesday night saw United crash out of the marquee European competition. Renan Lodi did the damage with a header only four minutes before half-time.

City and Liverpool had already booked their place in the last eight of the competition and Chelsea should follow suit. That means United are the only English team to have been sent packing this season.

As a result, their trophy hoodoo has been extended. Meanwhile, they face an almighty quest to qualify for the Champions League for next season.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher asked Neville which side he would rather see pick up the Champions League trophy in May and, while he would naturally say neither, the United favourite was pushed into a response.

"I wouldn't want Liverpool to win another Champions League," he said. "Probably... yeah, I would [rather City win]. For United, it's more about becoming the most successful club."
