Gary Neville is right about Rodri despite Man City snub

Regardless of how the title race goes, this season has been a brilliant one for Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola has had his side playing some of the best football ever seen in the Premier League, quite the achievement given the success enjoyed in previous years. City fans have seen incredible goals, sumptuous team moves and remarkable individual genius.

Every season City fans get to vote for their player of the season, and this time around the nominees are Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne.

It's hard to argue with their inclusion: Mahrez is City's top goal contributor this term, with 24 goals and nine assists in 46 games across all competitions. Bernardo has been a joy to watch, his combination of technical ability and work-rate marking him out as a truly unique player. Then there is De Bruyne - since the turn of the year, he has played lights-out football and has scored some vital goals for the Blues.

However, if truth be told none of the trio has been at their very best throughout the season. All have endured a handful of off-days and quiet spells, and when any have been missing from the team, City have tended to find a way to cope. That's no criticism - footballers are human after all.

However, there is one member of Guardiola's squad, snubbed for the player of the season award, who has been consistently outstanding all season - Rodri.

Gary Neville, unusually for him when it comes to matters on City, summer it up perfectly on Monday Night Football. "Rodri has been City's best player all season, outstanding."
