Gary Neville debunks Steven Gerrard theory about Man City vs Liverpool title race

Gary Neville has debunked the theory that Liverpool great Steven Gerrard might have a telling impact on the title race this season. Manchester City boast a three-point advantage on Liverpool and superior goal difference heading into the final three games of the campaign.

City visit Wolves and West Ham in the coming days before drawing the curtains on their latest Premier League tilt against Gerrard and his Aston Villa team on Sunday, May 22. That fixture is one that romantic Liverpool fans are hoping might have a major say on where the trophy ends up.

Gerrard famously slipped against Chelsea in 2014 to effectively cost Liverpool the title as he went his whole playing career without winning that particular medal. However, while he's got a chance to impact the destiny of this year's league, Neville says that City are too good to let it happen at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, he said: "I think if City get through this week, I don't think Aston Villa come here and get anything if City have to win to win the title. West Ham and Wolves have to pull points from City. They have to beat them, but this is not over and they are tough games.

"West Ham and Wolves are, after Arsenal and Tottenham, the two teams you would probably want your opponent to go to, maybe Everton because of what is happening there, or one of those teams at the bottom. I think that they are awkward games, games that if you are not at your best you can really slip up in.
