Gary Lineker delivers three-word message to Erik ten Hag after Manchester United job news

Gary Lineker has delivered a three-word welcome message to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as he gets ready to touch down in the Premier League next season. United confirmed the appointment on Thursday after they settled on the Dutchman as their number one managerial candidate.

Five months have passed since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as United boss and Ralf Rangnick will continue as interim for the remainder of this campaign. Ten Hag will step into the hot-seat this summer after setting his sights on a third Eredivisie title in four years with current club Ajax.

The 52-year-old has also won two Dutch Cup medals during his successful tenure in Amsterdam. Ten Hag replacing Solskjaer comes as no surprise after Manchester Evening News revealed last month that he was their preferred pick to become head coach — though reaction from across the board continues to flood in.

Among countless responses was a three-word message from Lineker. Addressing his 8.4million followers on social media platform Twitter, the former England striker turned Match of the Day presenter said: "Wish him well."

His comment came in response to United posting an image of Ten Hag draped with the United shirt.

In part of a statement posted upon his managerial appointment, Ten Hag said: "It's a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I'm hugely excited by the challenge ahead. I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I'm determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve."
