Gartcosh United 2-3 St Patrick's FPs - Saints come from behind to crush Cosh

St Patrick’s boss Johnny O’Brien praised his side for their comeback character, as they came from behind to defeat Gartcosh.

Saints trailed 2-1 at half-time in Lanarkshire, with Nico Petrucci and Phil Dolan netting either side of a Ciaran McElroy penalty.

However the Dumbarton side turned it around in the second-half, with Lewis Lobban levelling and McElroy netting again, whilst keeper Brian Gallacher saved a late penalty.

Boss O’Brien said: “We gained a valuable three points from a good Gartcosh side.

“This will be a tough place to go for teams this season and try to pick up points.

“To come back from 2-1 down at halftime, the players showed good belief in themselves and their football, and they were deserving of their victory.”

Saints came out on top after a tough battle with a fine second half performance ensuring the three points went back to Dumbarton.

The game’s opening 15 minutes were quite frantic and neither keeper was tested until Cosh’s Petrucci stabbed the ball home to give his side the lead.

They didn’t hold their lead for long before Saints were level however.

Within a minute of going behind Saints’ McElroy powered into the box where his cross was blocked by the hand of Cosh’s Black for a nailed on penalty.

Skipper McElroy coolly placed his shot in the corner of the net to bring equality to the match.

Saints were struggling to get to grips with the game and they fell behind again in the 19th minute when Dolan’s 30 yard shot flew past Gallacher and into the top corner.

By this stage the visitors had lost their way and were not playing their usual passing game, getting dragged into a long ball game which was more suited to their opponents.

However the second-half was totally different and, at last, Saints
