Gareth Southgate told why West Ham's Jarrod Bowen needs an England chance over Marcus Rashford

Former Tottenham icon Teddy Sheringham believes West Ham's Jarrod Bowen has been on 'fire' this season for West Ham and deserves an England call up over Marcus Rashford.

Bowen, 25, alongside Declan Rice, has been the main star this season for David Moyes' side with his 18 goal contributions in all competitions for the Hammers.

West Ham fans, as well as the player himself, may wonder why Bowen hasn't been given his England chance yet but with upcoming fixtures on the horizon for Gareth Southgate's side against Switzerland and Ivory Coast, there could finally be an opening for the Hammers' star.

An opportunity that could have been snatched away from him if his injury sustained against Liverpool in the most recent Premier League encounter was to be as bad as first initially feared.

"They seem to think that the tackle from [Andy] Robertson, around his heel area," Moyes clarified in the immediate aftermath of the Liverpool defeat.

“Not sure where but we will get him scanned. Jarrod has been exceptional for us so the last thing we want is for him to be injured.

“It could be nothing, but in the same breath I didn’t like the way he wasn’t able to put his weight through his foot so that worries me.”

Thankfully, one day later and West Ham had confirmed on their official website that the forward suffered “no significant damage” after a scan.

Head of West Ham’s Medical department, Richard Collinge, said: “Jarrod underwent an MRI scan in London on Sunday morning and thankfully no significant injury has occurred.

“He will continue to be monitored by the medical team and will undergo further examination in the coming days.”
