Gareth Southgate sends message to Man United's Sancho and Rashford after England omission

England manager Gareth Southgate has refused to close the door on Jadon Sancho's and Marcus Rashford's World Cup hopes after leaving them out of his latest squad selection.

The Manchester United duo have been omitted from the squad for next month's four UEFA Nations League fixtures against Hungary (X2), Germany and Italy. It is the second squad in a row that the attackers have been left out of, following their absences for the fixtures against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast in March.

United skipper Harry Maguire is the only United representative to have been included in Southgate's plans for the quartet of competitive internationals coming up, despite having experienced a turbulent campaign at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, he remains a key part of the England camp, playing a key role in the run to the final of the European Championship a little under a year ago.

But despite Sancho and Rashford, who both missed penalties in the shoot-out defeat to Italy in the final, not being included in Southgate's plans for the next crop of fixtures, they are still in with a chance of making the World Cup squad later this year. The England boss has issued a message in the direction of anyone who has missed out on the squad this time around, insisting there is still time to impress.

"It's not too late to break into the World Cup squad," said Southgtate, speaking at Tuesday's press conference. "No, because we have September and there's always the possibility somebody emerges.
