Gamers furious with Twitch after controversial reports emerge

Some rumoured changes are expected to be coming to Twitch in the near future meaning that streamers and content creators could earn less revenue.

Gamers and viewers on the site have been reacting to the rumours that the company is looking at implementing a 50/50 split in platform partner revenue, and it’s safe to say that they’re not happy.

Currently, partners and the company have a 70/30 split when it comes to revenue, but various reports have indicated that the Amazon-owned platform could be changing its model soon. The platform is home to streamers of games such as Fortnite, Genshin Impact, League of Legends and Apex Legends, and it represents a huge part of many content creators’ income.

Jake Lucky of Full Squad Gaming recently took to Twitter to comment on the rumours, writing: “Twitch MIGHT be taking top streamers from a 70/30 sub split down to 50/50, offering better ad incentives instead and possibly making exclusive contracts allowed to stream on YouTube and Facebook.”

The original report came from Bloomberg and more personalities in the esports and streaming communities have been commenting on the situation.

Parker McKay noted that the situation was a “joke,” tweeting: “The fact that most Twitch streamers only get 50% of their subscriber revenue is an absolute joke.

“The 70/30 split should be the norm, not the exception – ESPECIALLY with how intrusive and obnoxious ads have gotten on Twitch.”
