GAA wrap: Derry into Dr McKenna Cup final after beating Armagh

Derry are into the Dr McKenna Cup final for the second year in a row.

The defending champions beat Armagh in the semi-final this evening by 17 points to 2-7.

Ten points from man of the match Shane McGuigan shot champions Derry back to next Saturday’s final.

The Oakleafers’ response to both Armagh goals proved to be the foundation for victory.

It was an excellent game and played in perfect conditions with goalkeepers Odhrán Lynch and Blaine Hughes pulling off a string of fine saves.

Conor Doherty hit the opening score straight from the throw-in with McGuigan adding another in the fourth minute.

Derry had a goal chance saved by Hughes, denying Diarmuid Baker at the end of a breakaway with Gareth McKinless at its heart.

Cormac Murphy marked his debut with a Derry score before a 12th minute opening Armagh point from a Sean Conlon mark.

They will face either Monaghan or Donegal in the decider, they meet tomorrow.

Roscommon will take on Galway in the final of the Connacht Football League next week.

The Rossies got the better of a spirited London team by 21 points to 1-9 in their semi-final at the Air Dome.

Kilkenny titleholders Tullogher Rosbercon are the Junior Club hurling champions for 2024.

They dominated Cork's St Catherine's by 2-21 to 1-13 to take the final at Croke Park.

Thomastown will also bring the Intermediate crown back to Kilkenny.

They beat Castlelyons of Cork by 2-23 to 13 points in their decider at HQ.
