GAA team news: Tipperary opt for alphabet system for championship team news; Mannion, Cluxton and McCaffrey in Dublin panel

Tipperary have opted for a novel approach to naming their matchday squad for Sunday's Munster Hurling Championship clash with Clare.

The Premier County have followed GAA rules by submitting a panel by the 9am Thursday deadline ahead of the game, for public release Friday morning, however, they have listed their players in alphabetical order.

Star forward, Jason Forde, is named at number seven, however, it is highly unlikely that we will see the Silvermines man line out among the half-backs.

"The team and subs are expected to be announced this evening (Friday) after training," stated the Tipperary GAA website.

The Tipperary footballers, however, have taken the traditional route and named their squad in line with what will likely be the starting 15 for their weekend clash with Kerry.

Paul Mannion looks set to make his first championship outing in the Dublin blue since 2020 as the Kilmacud Crokes man has been named in the XV to face Laois.

Stephen Cluxton and Jack McCaffrey are also travelling with Dessie Farrell's side to Portlaoise, however both look set to start the game on the bench as they have been handed numbers 16 and 22 respectively.

Champions Kerry will line out with 12 of the starting side that beat Galway in last year's All-Ireland final as Paul Murphy, Tony Brosnan and Dara Moynihan all start against Tipperary. Brian O'Beaglaoich and Stephen O'Brien start on the bench, while David Moran has since retired.

All-Ireland hurling champions Limerick, have, as expected, named a formidable starting XV for their opener against Davy Fitzgerald's Waterford, with Cian Lynch back in championship
