GAA Annual Congress 2022: All you need to know

Where is Congress taking place?

This year's Congress takes place in the NUI Galway Connacht GAA Airdome in Bekan, Co Mayo. Or the Air Dome as it has become known to most people.

When is it?

Congress takes place tomorrow morning, beginning at 10.30am. It breaks for lunch at 1pm - and once the carvery* is consumed, the motions will be resumed. The programme is expected conclude some time around 5pm.

* we haven't got official confirmation of the menu, so this is an educated guess based on past evidence

A total of 48 motions will go before the delegates to be debated and voted on.

Who has put forward the 48 motions?

Central Council (3), Rules Advisory Committee (21), Central Competitions Control Committee (2), Standing Committee on Playing Rules (2), Sliotar Workgroup (1), Coaching and Games Development Committee (1), International Workgroup (1), 14 from the various units, and two for listing that will ratify decisions of Central Council.

Right. Almost sorry I asked. Think I need to lie down. I probably don’t need to know all 48 motions, but what are the main talking points?

You certainly don’t need to know all the motions. Motion 20 for example proposes to allow counties to vary the dimensions of a pitch in the case of juvenile games according to their own local requirements. Not one likely to be splashed across the Sunday papers.

The biggest motion arguably is the first one up for debate, and that is the restructuring of the football championship.
