Further transfer update emerges about Kristian Pedersen at Birmingham City

Birmingham City full-back Kristian Pedersen was the subject of a rejected bid from an overseas team during deadline day yesterday, as per a report from Birmingham Live.

Last Friday, manager Lee Bowyer admitted that the Blues would be open to selling the 27-year-old if an acceptable bid came in and it was in the club’s best interests, even going as far as revealing that he believes the Dane will leave St Andrew’s on the expiration of his contract in the summer.

Football League World revealed back in December that the West Midlands outfit were looking to offload some of their first-team players in a bid to bring their wage bill down, though Pedersen didn’t seem to be one of those squad members.

Nonetheless, he attracted interest from English trio Burnley, Coventry City and Nottingham Forest during last month according to Football Insider, although none were reported to have made a formal offer for his services.

A bid did come in for him though – but the second-tier side rebuffed this offer from an unidentified club playing their trade overseas with Harlee Dean already leaving the Blues one option short at centre-back and a move for Bristol City’s Jay Dasilva failing to materialise.

At this stage though, the 27-year-old hasn’t committed his future to the Midlands outfit as things stand despite being a regular this season, potentially foreshadowing an exit at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Verdict:

In the end, this was probably a smart move from the Bowyer’s men, even if they end up losing the defender for free in the summer.

He may split some peoples’ opinion in the Birmingham fanbase, but with Dean moving on to Sheffield Wednesday, he’s an experienced option they can call upon in the absence of their former captain.
