Funniest Premier League commentary ever? Kevin Phillips' 2005 goal vs Chelsea
Has the greatest piece of commentary in Premier League history been unearthed?
Southampton 1-3 Chelsea isn’t a game that most football fans will remember but one commentator’s reaction for Kevin Phillips’ 69th-minute goal needs to be heard to be believed.
Phillips scored 10 Premier League goals during that campaign, including one against the team that won the title at the end of the season.
When Phillips netted to make the score 2-1, setting up an intriguing final 20 minutes in the process, one Fox Sports commentator providing commentary for a non-English speaking audience decided to go rogue.
After the standard elongated “Gooooooooooooooool!” that’s customary in South America, the Rolling Stones’ classic song ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ began to play.
But instead of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards’ lyrics, the commentator spent the next 40 seconds singing about Southampton’s No. 7.
