Fuming Rutherglen Glencairn boss Willie Harvey 'sent off' during cup defeat

Willie Harvey has accepted an immediate one-match ban for being sent off on Saturday, but hopes Rutherglen Glencairn’s highlights will vindicate him.

Harvey will miss the home West of Scotland League First Division clash against Bonnyton Thistle.

The Glens boss was sent to the stand by referee Regan Wallace for comments made to him as his side fell to a 3-2 West of Scotland Cup third round defeat at home to Craigmark Burntonians, in which defender Anthony Maguire also saw red.

Harry Mitchell put Glencairn in front, but Liam Caddis scored a penalty to level for a handball, before Jack McIlveen restored the hosts’ lead.

Jordan Ryan headed Craigmark level, Maguire was shown a second yellow, and Caddis netted another penalty to send them through to the fourth round.

Harvey said: “It was a game we should have won – unfortunately we had chances that we should have scored, but didn’t take.

“It will sound like sour grapes if I start moaning and groaning, and there’s so much I want to say but can’t, due to the fact that I got sent away from the dug-out for what I thought of the refereeing.

“But if I say any more, I’ll probably get myself into a lot of trouble.

“I did make a statement that hopefully the highlights will show where my frustration lay.”

Harvey added: “They got two penalties against us, the first one with Dom McLaughlin in the first half I totally refute. It shouldn’t have been given.

“The second one with Anton McDowall was a stonewaller – there’s no arguing with it. It was a silly penalty to give away, there was no reason to, and that was disappointing.

“We made mistakes at the back, and switched off at a free-kick as well, which we have been guilty of.
