Full list of airlines impacted by IT outage as British Airways, Jet2 and KLM issue statements

A major tech outage this morning affecting businesses using Microsoft Windows has caused a series of disruptions to airports and airlines across the world.

The IT outage is understood to have stemmed from an issue with the Crowdstrike cybersecurity software which is used on Microsoft Windows platforms. The problem has triggered the infamous 'blue screen of death' on affected computers, locking businesses out of being able to do important tasks.

As a result, it has had a global impact on credit card companies, shops, transport services, and the NHS - which is reporting that its GP and patient record systems are currently down due to the glitch. People have also reported being currently unable to request new prescriptions.

Airports have also been impacted, with some passengers reporting large queues and delays to check-in. In Germany, air traffic was suspended at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, whilst Manchester Airport reported some of its airlines were affected.

The airport said that the glitch has had an impact on Swissport, one of its ground handling agents which works with major airlines like Tui and Ryanair. Due to the outage, passengers are having to be manually checked-in which is taking longer, but Manchester Airport said ‘most flights are unaffected’.

That means some processes like check-in and boarding are being carried out manually and are taking longer than usual for those airlines.
