Fulham boss gives update on future of youngster wanted by Liverpool

Fulham manager Marco Silva has provided an update on the future of Fabio Carvalho who is reportedly wanted by Premier League side Liverpool.

The forward has shone this season for high-flying Fulham, scoring seven goals in 16 Championship appearances.

However, the player is out-of-contract in the summer and has been linked with a move away from Craven Cottage.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are reportedly interested in the player and could have made a move for the Portuguese youngster this month.

The Reds now look likely to be bringing in Porto star Luis Diaz as they gazumped Tottenham in a move for the Colombian, so a move for Carvalho looks like it may wait until the summer.

Fulham boss Silva has now revealed that the player will be at the club until the summer at least, but they are finding it tough to tie down the player past the end of the season.

“Fabio will be with us until the end of the season,” he said on Friday. “I would like to see him here for more years.

“From day one I have been trying to keep him. It is not a surprise that clubs are interested in Fabio. We are talking about a young player with big talent.

“The situation is not easy because he is in the last year of his contract, but that is the reality. It is out of our plans for him to leave the club in this window.

“It has been difficult for us to renew with him, but we are trying.

“It is always difficult with a player of this talent – even with a contract it is difficult to keep him, and without it is even worse. But Fabio will be with us until the end of this season.”

Elsewhere, Dimitar Berbatov is hopeful Anthony Martial’s move to Sevilla will be beneficial for him.
