From thumping Real Madrid to legends being made - Man City's greatest European nights ranked

1 - City 1-0 Inter

Well, there can only be one winner, can’t there? It doesn’t get much bigger or better than winning the famous trophy for the first time to complete the treble.

Though some Manchester City fans who attended the match in Istanbul had a torrid time getting to and from the ground, it must have been worth it to witness the club’s crowning achievement. Winning the Champions League has been the ultimate goal for years.

The match itself was actually an underwhelming affair with City threatening to fluff their lines on the biggest stage for a second time. But there was a happy ending this time as Rodri powered home the decisive goal to clinch the club game’s biggest prize.

2 - City 4-0 Real Madrid

This list may well be dominated by matches from City’s run to Champions League triumph and it’s hardly surprising given the way they went about their march to the final. The pick of the bunch has to be the emphatic 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the semi-final second leg.

The Blues escaped from Madrid with the scores tied after De Bruyne excellently cancelled out Vinicius Junior’s opener, setting up a finely poised return fixture at the Etihad. City were eliminated by Madrid in stunning, agonising circumstances at the same stage 12 months earlier and that hung heavy over the encounter.

But City blew Madrid away. Bernardo Silva scored twice in the first half before two more goals were added after the break to record an emphatic 4-0 win. A dismantling of the holders as City took a step closer to fulfilling their destiny.

3 - Cup Winners’ Cup
