From dinosaurs and superheroes to a shoe... The wildest Manchester Marathon outfits from over the years

Thousands of runners are gearing up for the race of their lives as they take part in the Manchester Marathon this Sunday (April 3). This year's event, which is described as being the UK's largest Spring marathon, will kick off from 9am at Chester Road in Trafford before making it through the city centre, Moss Side and Hulme, before finishing back in Trafford.

The 26.2 mile route is set to attract 26,000 runners all taking part for their own reasons. Throughout the years, the marathon event has raised more than £3,000,000 to date for various different charities.

With the weather looking like it might be a little colder than in previous years, those lining the streets to watch the racers reach the finish line could still be in for some eye-opening outfits if this year’s event is anything like years gone by.

While some will don the traditional vest and running shorts combo - as is their right - there are others who will take the opportunity to dress up in outrageous and wild outfits. In past years, we’ve had everything from lions and pineapples to superheroes and bananas.

There’s also been pink waistcoat-wearing Jokers, rhinos, unicorns, and an impressive amount of dinosaurs. We've also seen people take on marathons in more unique traditions - such as Craig Keatley, also known as 'Flipper Guy', who takes part in marathons and running events wearing a pair of diving fins.

Take a look at our gallery below of some of the very best outfits from the last few Manchester Marathon.
