The summer transfer window opens in just 79 days for Premier League clubs.

Manchester United have spent more than £400million on players across the last two summer windows and Erik ten Hag has received the heaviest backing of any manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, which explains why there's been dismay at the team's performances this season.

Ten Hag has been given a large degree of influence over which players have been signed during his reign and he's previously said recruitment 'control' is a non-negotiable for him.

However, a new era is under way following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's acquisition of a minority stake and this summer will mark the first transfer window with the British billionaire as co-owner.

There is change coming at Old Trafford. Omar Berrada, who is serving gardening leave, has been poached from Manchester City to become United's CEO and negotiations with Newcastle are ongoing regarding the potential appointment of Dan Ashworth as sporting director.

Ashworth is not expected to be appointed in time to begin work with United this summer, but United have an idea of their transfer targets well before the window officially opens.

Whether they qualify for the Champions League will obviously have an impact on business and there is potential that Ten Hag could be sacked at the end of the campaign.
