Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United transfer ramps up as club 'confident' Barcelona star will sign 'swiftly'

Manchester United are "increasingly confident" of a deal to land Frenkie de Jong.

New Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag has launched a move to sign his former Ajax midfielder from Barcelona.

And talkSPORT claim United are hopeful they can conclude a deal for the 25-year-old Netherlands international "swiftly".

Reports from Spain have indicated cash-strapped Barca were holding out for €80m for the Dutchman, who they signed from Ajax in 2019.

But it's been stated De Jong was increasingly open to reuniting with Ten Hag in Manchester.

Man United have prioritised signing a midfielder this summer following the departure of Paul Pogba on a free.

But they look set to miss out on Benfica star Darwin Nunez as he closes in on a move to Liverpool.

The Reds are believed to be willing to break their £75million transfer record to land the forward, who is keen to sign for a Champions League club.
