Frenkie de Jong and Jurrien Timber share view on Erik ten Hag in video to Man Utd boss

Manchester United transfer targets Jurrien Timber and Frenkie de Jong both participated in a video to congratulate Erik ten Hag on his new job.

The Dutchman is preparing for a busy summer transfer window, being tasked with turning things around at Old Trafford and making United title contenders over the course of the next few seasons. And with that, he will need to majorly shake up the squad.

Several players, including Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, are out of contract this summer, whilst others are expected to depart – in turn, creating space in the squad for new arrivals. Of course, Ten Hag already has a list of transfer targets – and on there are, reportedly, several players that he has worked with previously at Ajax.

Central defender Timber, who he managed this season, and Barcelona midfielder De Jong, were both involved in a ‘thank you’ message to their former boss that Ajax created to congratulate Ten Hag on his new job. Timber said: “I want to thank you and wish you good luck.

“You made me grow as a player and as a person. We did great things, achieved great things, things you can be proud of. A great step to a big club with big players and in a big competition. I hope you and Manchester United enjoy the football you are going to play."

With Eric Bailly and Phil Jones reportedly departing, as well as United’s defence largely underperforming this season, signing a central defender appears a priority for Ten Hag. The club have been linked with making a £35 move for Timber, though Villarreal’s Pau Torres has been cited as a target previously as well.

Recruiting a midfielder is also high on the ‘to do list’ of Ten Hag given he is set to lose all of his depth in the centre of the park. West Ham ’s Declan Rice
