French Open news: Defending champion Novak Djokovic cruises past Yoshihito Nishioka

The Serbian beat Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3 6-1 6-0 in a one-sided first night match of the tournament on Court Philippe Chatrier.

The World No 1 was returning to the Grand Slam stage four months after being deported from Australia ahead of the Australian Open over his Covid vaccination status.

Djokovic was in cruise-control throughout his opening round encounter and continues his fine form after winning his first title six months last week at the Italian Open.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion is looking for a third title at Roland Garros following victories in 2016 and last year.
