French Open: Karolina Muchova one of ‘most complete tennis players in the world’ - Expert reaction to final

Karolina Muchova put up a spirited fight in her first Grand Slam final, taking world No. 1 and defending champion Iga Swiatek to three sets, 6-2 5-7 6-4, in Paris and impressing the crowd with her incredible game.

It wasn’t only the fans that were swooning over her shot-making ability though, the Czech player getting praise from her foe, with Swiatek acknowledging her opponent’s “variety” and that she fully expected many more finals between the two of them in the coming years. Ad Eurosport’s Mats Wilander went even further, after watching Muchova mix it up in the final with a variety of powerful groundstrokes, slice backhands and impeccably placed volleys that had Swiatek on the run on numerous occasions.

But although she looked slightly over-awed at the start of the match, she soon found her stride and was a break up in the final set, before once again the sense of occasion possibly got to her.
