French Open 2023: Ons Jabeur flaunts 'amazing touch' with audacious jumping drop shot at Roland-Garros

Ons Jabeur again demonstrated her skills with an «amazing touch» as she produced an audacious jumping drop shot in her opening match at the 2023 French Open on Tuesday. The Tunisian, who had already established a break of serve to lead 2-1 in the opening set against her opponent, Lucia Bronzetti of Italy, showcased her immense talent with some wonderful improvisation.

Ad Jabeur had a number of options from behind the baseline as Bronzetti floated up a defensive groundstroke, and she selected surely the least predictable response by jumping up and pulling off a sublime backhand drop shot. It was an exquisite piece of skill from the ever-entertaining 28-year-old, who reached the fourth round at Roland-Garros in both 2020 and 2021 but will be hoping to at least progress to the quarter-finals this time round. «She is pretty good out here, isn’t she?!» Miles Maclagan remarked on commentary for Eurosport at the time.

«The touch, the forehand before that as well was a nice counter. You don’t see that in the textbooks!» Chris Bradnam added: «That is an amazing touch! That is so good!” Jabeur is the seventh seed at Roland-Garros this year and is always a firm fan favourite with her entertaining style of play and big personality.
