Fred delivers his verdict on Manchester United this season

Fred admits Manchester United have been 'far below' what was expected of them this season. The Reds are set to finish the campaign trophyless and could realistically miss out on Champions League qualification as well.

United were expected to mount a serious Premier League title challenge this year, but instead have fallen even further behind the standards set by fierce rivals Man City and Liverpool, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked last November.

It means United will go five years since they last lifted any silverware and are in search of another permanent manager heading into a pivotal summer rebuild.

Fred, who is away on international duty with Brazil, is under no illusion that things haven't been good enough, but he is committed to turning things around.

“It was a season far below what we wanted and expected, unfortunately," he said at a press conference. "There is still a lot of water ahead, we will try to work to qualify for the next Champions League, which at the moment is our main objective.

“But when you come here you have to change the key, it’s another way of playing, the style of play, everything else, change. You change the key, you have to be focused on the team, because it’s a short period, when you’re here you have to be 100%.

“I try to do my best, work and when I return to United I’ll think about it again, change the key, but at the moment I’m focused on the national team.”
