Freak injury setback for Man United youngster halts bid to impress manager in pre-season

Manchester United youngster Dan Gore is set to miss pre-season after dislocating his shoulder during a personal training session.

The 19-year-old had surgery on his shoulder this week and is now set to start his rehabilitation, with a return to action in the early weeks of the 2024/25 season the target.

With a number of United’s first-team squad on international duty this summer Gore would have been hoping to earn some senior action in pre-season, with the first friendly the day after the Euro 2024 final. He impressed in the friendly against Lyon last summer and was included in the 31-man squad for the tour of the United States.

It is the second injury blow to hit the Prestwich-born midfielder recently, with Gore restricted to just 54 minutes of action in a loan spell with Port Vale in the second half of the season after picking up an injury.

That switch to Vale Park came after the captain of United’s under-21s had spent the first half of the season around Erik ten Hag’s first-team set-up. He was handed his senior debut in September in the Carabao Cup success against Crystal Palace and came off the bench in the closing stages of the Premier League win against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Gore was an unused substitute in a further six Premier League games, as well as being on the bench for three of the six Champions League group games before Christmas.

He was also part of the side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2021/22, featuring alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.
