FRC changes: Proposed new look for Gaelic football

***First published back in October, this story has been updated to reflect the new rules being introduced competitvely this weekend in the Allianz Football League***

Gaelic football's tranche of new rules get their first proper testing in a competitive setting this weekend with the start of the Allianz Football League.

Last year, ahead of the inter-provincial trial games in Croke Park, RTÉ Sport sat down with Jim Gavin and Éamonn Fitzmaurice to go through the new rules one by one.

While they represent the biggest change to Gaelic football in modern times, the FRC was confident that Special Congress wouldvote to introduce the rules as a package, arguing that they are inter-connected and dependant on each other to effectively transform the sport.

This proved to be the case, with the FRC's withdrawal of the four-point goal the only significant change to the rules outlined below.

"A lot of the rules enhancements are married to each other, work together and compliment each other," said Fitzmaurice.

As well as "seven core enhancements", there are proposed changes to the punishment of tactical fouling, dissent, aggressive fouling, as well as how the game is timed and officiated.

See below for individual articles and videos on each of the significant changes proposed.

Football Review Committee chairman Jim Gavin explains the rationale behind the 1 v 1 throw-in proposal to start the game.
