Frank Lampard sent Barcelona message at Everton as Farhad Moshiri approach clear

Former Everton defender Richard Dunne believes that the Blues harness the power of Goodison Park to produce the intense type of football needed to stay up this season but Frank Lampard should be given time to turn things around as he can eventually get them to play the “Barcelona way.”

Dunne’s ex-Everton team-mate Michael Ball insisted last month in his ECHO column that Lampard needed to forget about his football philosophy until next season and get the team safe by being able to “figure out a system for this group of players to remain tight.”

The Blues responded in kind with a direct and hard-working display against Manchester United on Saturday in which they collectively ran more than 10km more than their opponents to secure a 1-0 victory with Lampard hailing their “fight, spirit and desire.”

Everton still haven’t won away from home in the Premier League since the 2-0 success at Brighton & Hove Albion back on August 28 but Dunne believes the passion of the Goodison crowd is a key factor to the 17th-placed side’s survival hopes.

Speaking on behalf of Irish Grand National sponsor BoyleSports, he said: “The result against United was huge at the weekend in terms of belief and stopping the rot. They still have some very tough games but the one thing I think will go in their favour is Goodison Park.
