Frank Lampard sends message to Everton fans after making 'caught up' admission

Frank Lampard says his first game as Everton will be a 'day I never forget' and he thanked the fans for their backing.

Lampard kicked-off his Blues' reign with a 4-1 win over Brentford in the FA Cup fourth round at a buoyant Goodison Park.

The home fans chanted Lampard's name throughout the second period having given him a warm reception before the tie started.

And the 43-year-old, who was appointed as manager on Monday, says it was an emotionally charged afternoon for him in the Goodison dug-out.

Lampard said: "I can only thank the fans for their support of me, from the moment I walked out, throughout the match and of course at the end, when they see their team perform as they did. I've got huge thanks.

"It's been brilliant all week, and to see that today was something very special, a day I will never forget, it is only the start of my time here but I can't but help but get caught up in the emotion of the moment."

Lampard added: "We all hear about the Goodison effect, and I've felt it from the other side and we wanted to produce that today, the players did, and the way the players played and approached the game meant the fans bought into the game straight away.

"It was a very special day for me."
