Frank Lampard sends Manchester United warning after Everton defeat

Frank Lampard has warned Manchester United his Everton side will be ready to fight on Saturday after being plunged further into trouble.

United visit Goodison Park on Saturday, with their hosts battling for Premier League survival. Everton now sit just one point above the relegation zone following their 3-2 defeat to Burnley on Wednesday.

The Toffees have found themselves dragged into the fight against the drop amid a dismal record for Lampard since his appointment as manager. The former Chelsea midfielder has lost seven of his nine league games in charge and has picked up just six points during his tenure so far.

But the Everton boss has warned United and his other remaining opponents that his side won’t be giving up in their battle against relegation. United will be aiming to boost their top four hopes when they travel to Merseyside at lunchtime on Saturday.

"Our players have to keep going, they're not silly,” Lampard told BBC Sport. “They know that they have to keep going, we have nine games to go. We're just above the zone so if we didn't know we were in a fight before then we certainly know now.

"There are nine games where we have to give absolutely everything, every ounce that we have. I will certainly do that and everybody has to do the same.

“It doesn't feel nice tonight, but we have to understand we have a game in three days’ time and more games after that to get enough points to stay in this league. That's what's there to fight for."
