Frank Lampard outlines why Mason Mount will be a perfect fit for Manchester United

Frank Lampard believes Mason Mount will be a 'fantastic player' for Manchester United after his move from Chelsea.

The 24-year-old become United's first signing of the summer after an initial fee of £55m was agreed with a further £5m in add-ons. The midfielder had only a year left on his deal at Stamford Bridge and has now committed his future to United for the next five seasons.

Lampard managed Mount at both Chelsea and Derby County. He took the midfielder to Pride Park on loan, before handing him a breakthrough at Stamford Bridge during his first spell as manager. And Lampard believes Mount will fit in at Old Trafford and will improve those around him by setting high standards.

“Mason Mount is going to be a fantastic player for them, in my opinion," Lampard told the Diary of a CEO podcast. “I think he’s a great signing. It’s a complicated one. I think in the end he’s got a year left on his contract…

“What I’ll say about Mason is, you talk about modern players and how the game’s changed, he is a throwback to the [older days of] attitude and commitment and quality. That was the beauty of working with Mason, he gave me so much in terms of his effort every day.

“Anything you’d ask him to do he was like ‘yeah’ and he got it. Any great player has to have that intelligence and that desire about them. ‘What do you need me to do? Yeah I got it, I’ll do it and repeat it.’ And also quality.

“In terms of what he’ll bring to Manchester United, it won’t just be what Mason brings he’ll
