Frank Lampard namechecks Man City talent Phil Foden after Manchester United triumph
Frank Lampard namechecked Manchester City playmaker Phil Foden in his praise of Everton’s Anthony Gordon following the Toffees’ 1-0 win over Manchester United.
Gordon’s first-half strike was enough to subject United to their eighth league defeat of the season and effectively rule them out of the race for the top four. They stay seventh and are now battling for a Europa League spot.
The win was just Everton’s second in eight Premier League matches. Gordon’s winner means Lampard has now won three league games as Everton boss, with the victory boosting the club’s chances of avoiding relegation.

Speaking after the game, the former Chelsea manager likened Gordon to Foden in his desire to influence the game. “He (Gordon) loves the idea of scoring goals and making assists,” he said.
“He’s on himself if he doesn’t do that, he wants more which is brilliant to see in a young player. It’s the difference for our great young talent in this country; Mason Mount, Phil Foden - all have that great attitude that makes them what they are, and he’s one of those.”
Foden received many plaudits on Tuesday following his impactful substitute appearance in City's Champions League quarter-final first-leg win over Atletico Madrid. He managed to unlock the defensive Spanish side, assisting Kevin De Bruyne’s winner in the 1-0 victory.
Fans are now calling for him to start Sunday’s game against Liverpool in a match that many have said could sway which way the title goes. Foden netted at Anfield in the reverse fixture in November, which ended 2-2.
