Frank Lampard gives Dominic Calvert-Lewin update and confirms Ben Godfrey injury blow for Everton

Everton boss Frank Lampard remains hopeful of having Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit for the crunch Premier League game with Newcastle United after the striker returned to individual training.

But Lampard confirmed defender Ben Godfrey will be 'missing for a period' after being forced off in the 4-1 FA Cup win over Brentford because of a hamstring injury.

Everton's medical department will have to wait until at least Monday before being able to send Godfrey for a scan.

The £20m man left Goodison Park on crutches.

Calvert-Lewin trained alone at Finch Farm on Friday and Lampard has not yet given up hope of being able to include the No.9 in the party that travels to St James' Park on Tuesday.

"I'm hopeful," said the new Blues manager.

"I've actually had my eye off the ball on that with the game but, yesterday [Friday], he was training outside on his own.

"So hopefully he will be with the team tomorrow [Sunday].

"Whether he's ready for in three days' time, we'll have to see where he's at and if he's match, game ready, I will know more about that in the build up to the game over the next couple of days."

On Godfrey, Lampard said: "It's a hamstring injury which is to be assessed.

"We'll have to let it settle for two days and then scan it, not good. He'll be missing for a period of time depending on the severity of the injury, but it's a hamstring."
