'I apologise' - Dominic Calvert-Lewin offers honest assessment of Everton defeat

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has apologised to Everton fans following the side's most recent defeat to Southampton.

However, the striker also believes that new manager Frank Lampard's methods in training will breed the confidence that the squad needs to drag them out of trouble.

After what was a rousing victory over Leeds United, the Blues reverted to a poor display and fell to a disappointing 2-0 loss to Ralph Hasenhuttl's Saints on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Stuart Armstrong and Shane Long in the second half on last weekend's encounter were enough to seal all three points for the hosts and send Evertonians back on the long journey to Merseyside with a feeling of frustration.

Speaking after the loss to Southampton [via the Daily Star], Calvert-Lewin explained that the squad are enjoying their training sessions once more under the new manager.

And he knows that he and his teammates will be working hard to put their situation right.

He said: "I apologise to the fans who travelled because no-one will be more disappointed than them.

"We'll work hard to put it right. The work we're doing in training breeds confidence.

"I don't want to say the typical things because I know there will be frustrated fans saying it's same old, same old.

"But everyone has bought into what the manager is doing and we're enjoying training again."

Calvert-Lewin is yet to score following his four-month layoff from injury earlier in the campaign, having found the back of the net in each of his three Premier League matches before his issue.
