Frank Lampard answers Everton formation question and sets possession target
New Everton boss Frank Lampard says his preferred formation will become apparent in the upcoming games - as he aims to bring an "exciting brand" of football to Goodison with greater possession.
Lampard also stressed that his experience of coming up against Blues' side during his playing career has left him with an understanding of the "fundamentals" expected of the team.
The 43-year-old did not want to reveal his favourite choice of system but says after the forthcoming games, with Brentford, Newcastle United and Leeds United up next, Everton supporters will have a better idea of how he likes to set his sides up.
But Lampard stressed that he will expect the squad to be flexible enough to play in a variety of formations and concedes he has to mould his thinking around the players available to him.
"I'm sure you don't expect me to declare a shape?!" he said with a laugh.
"I'm more interested in the big idea of my team, in the way we want to play, rather than a shape or a system.
"It's the basics, the things you talk about everyday with the players and the messages can be moved into many different systems.
