Four Atletico Madrid players miss training ahead of Manchester United Champions League tie

Atletico Madrid were missing four players from training yesterday ahead of their Champions League tie with Manchester United this week.

United travel to the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday seeking to gain the advantage in their last-16 tie.

Their opponents, Atletico, have had a less than ideal season so far and find themselves fifth in La Liga - 15 points behind leaders and city rivals, Real Madrid.

Diego Simeone may have further issues to contend with ahead of the Champions League test, though, as four of his players missed training ahead of the game.

According to AS via Sport Witness, Thomas Lemar missed training yesterday after he came into close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19.

Benjamin Lecomte, Daniel Wass and Matheus Cunha also missed training with the latter two suffering injuries in recent weeks which have ruled them out of Wednesday's game.

One glimmer of hope for Simeone is that Antoine Griezmann, who has yet to feature in 2022, was fit enough for the bench for their match with Osasuna on Saturday.
