Manchester United defender Alex Telles makes honest admission about Atletico Madrid tie

Manchester United must show their true 'face' for 90 minutes at Old Trafford if they are to edge past Champions League opponents Atletico Madrid.

That's the verdict from Brazil international, Alex Telles, who was summoned from the United bench during the 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano last night.

United were given an early warning sign when Joao Felix opened the scoring inside seven minutes.

It was far from vintage for the remainder of that last-16 opener, but Telles and his teammates boarded the return flight to Manchester with a positive result after academy graduate Anthony Elanga made his mark.

A late finish from substitute Elanga has set the tie up nicely for the second leg at Old Trafford on March 15.

Speaking after his own cameo from the bench, Telles said: "The feeling is not the best because we wanted to win, actually, but we are coming out of here with a great result. A good result for the second leg.

"We know we are very strong at home. We need to prepare this game even better in order to try and get through to the next round.

"We know that in the first half we didn't play a proper Manchester United first half, so we knew that we had to be better in the second half.

"We are not entirely happy about the result - but we know we're coming out of here with a result that [means] we can go back to Old Trafford and win and go through to the next stage.

"But we know we have to show a different face in the second leg if we want to win."
