Forty years ago today, Seamus Darby scored THAT goal

Forty years ago today, Offaly super sub Seamus Darby scored arguably the most famous goal in the history of Gaelic football.

His shot high into the net in the closing stages of the 1982 All-Ireland final beat Charlie Nelligan in the Kerry goal and slammed the brakes on the Kingdom's Drive for Five.

His catch, turn and left-footed shot have become an iconic image, no less than his jig of delight. While in Kerry they still talk about the perceived push on Tommy Doyle as they competed for Liam O'Connor's high diagonal ball.

Kerry squandered a couple of chances to equalise and Offaly, under legendary manager Eugene McGee, held on for a 1-15 to 0-17 victory and claimed a third All-Ireland title.
