Formula E's Anna Rota hails the "empowering" women in motorsport

Our latest ‘Women in Motorsport’ column focuses on Anna Rota, the Press Officer for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, and how she combined her love for racing with her passion to create a greener planet and fly the flag for women.

After being a heavily male-dominated industry for decades, women are turning the tide and changing how the world views motorsport — but it’s not just those behind the wheel who are making the difference.

Rota sat down with GiveMeSport Women to talk about her journey with Formula E so far and her personal mission statement to grow the Championship and the women within it.

“I’m Italian, so needless to say, Sunday lunchtimes were all about motorsport — there was no way to get control of the remote,” Rota reflected as she took us back to where the passion for racing started.

Unlike many women in the industry, becoming a driver was never on the cards for Rota. She joined Formula E in 2019 after graduating from university and could hardly believe she had secured a job involving the three huge loves in her life.

“With Formula E, I really managed to combine my main passions,” Rota explains. “Firstly, PR — I’m genuinely passionate about PR and advertising a product that you truly believe in. 

“Secondly, motorsport — I remember when I was little and I was watching on TV, I couldn’t see many females around the paddock. Now, every time I go out on the track I’m like, ‘look how many powerful women are here right now.’ And we are genuinely making the change, we’re powering through.

“And thirdly, travel. It is so important to see other cultures and really learn from them.”
